What happened to the South Africa Project?

On November 2, 2010, in Gender equality, World Cup, by Dave Taylor

Long-time supporters might be wondering why in the last few months we’ve changed our focus from being the South Africa Project to the broader topic of rape prevention and equality throughout the world. Have we given up on South Africa?

Most assuredly not!

In fact, our involvement and commitment to helping the situation out – and the non-governmental operations we work with like Sonke – is undimmed. We continue to be passionate about our ability to empower South Africans to create a more equal, more harmonious future.

What’s changed is that the FIFA 2010 World Cup has ended. A thrilling few weeks it was, the culmination of literally years of work by South Africans and thousands of others throughout the world. The next World Cup, in 2014, will be in Brazil and as a result we at Ubuntu Now have started to swing our spotlight to South America so we can learn more about what’s happening on the ground, identify congruent charitable organizations that we can assist, and create relationships with them and the Brazilian people.

Our vision has always been to work towards creating a more peaceful and just world, tapping into the enthusiasm and passion that the world has for the most popular sporting event on the planet. We discussed creating The Brazil Project, but that seems a bit confusing, so from hereon out, you’ll see Ubuntu Now as our identity, online and off.

Name change aside, our mission remains the same and our desire to have you get engaged and help is even stronger than it was. If you want to help make the world a better place, if you desire a planet without violence towards women and equality for all, then we encourage you to get involved.

Because Ubuntu, the idea that we are measured as a person by the people around us and how we interrelate, is needed more and more each day.
